Project presentation

UNOPA Federation implements, for a period of 12 months, the project “Improving the quality of life of people living with HIV in the COVID-19 pandemic” which comes to the aid of PLHIV affected by the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic.

The project is supported by a grant from Gilead Sciences Europe Ltd, with a budget of 68000 RON.

The objectives of the project are as follows:

1. Increasing access to counselling, diagnostics, treatment services for 250 PLHIV in the next 12 months

2. Increasing access to information on HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 in the online space for PLHIV

The activities of the project consist of:

  1. Peer support for PLHIV:

A service where people living with HIV/AIDS can talk directly with other volunteer patients to share information and validate their emotions, feelings so that they learn to manage different aspects that may arise in a patient’s life. Being able to talk to other patients in the same situation is a real help in overcoming social barriers regarding infection, eliminating unjustified fears and creating abilities to adapt and readjust to infection, as well as strengthening self-confidence and self-esteem.

  • Webinars live on Facebook:

Discussions and presentations held by infectious-disease doctors on various topics of interest to people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as professionals active in the field of HIV/AIDS. There will be included topicsabout the vaccine that provides immunity and prevents infection with Sars-Cov-2. Webinars offer the advantage of anonymous accessibility, both from the general population, professionals in HIV/AIDS-related fields, and people living with HIV/AIDS. At the same time, the video remains saved on social media, so it can become a constant resource that can be tracked later on the UNOPA Facebook page.
